Hello guys and girls. OK... so I was reluctant to do a post on this, because a lot of my readership is from the UK, but I also have some readers in the USA so I was torn whether to review them. Recently after speaking to some people on Twitter, they convinced me to pop the review up as the items are available on ebay and Sephora in the USA.
So if you didn't already know, Sephora and Disney have teamed up to collaborate on some Princess themed make up. Now I know what you are thinking, Princess make up doesn't sound very classy, grown up or attractive at all. But when the collection was released in October last year, the items were just breathtakingly stunning. I knew I just HAD to have them, but being a Sephora exclusive over in the USA, I had to resort to ebay. Now at the time, it wasn't too much more expensive, in some cases working out the same price as Sephora with just extra shipping! But now the prices on ebay are a little bit more but if you are desperate, it is all still available to purchase!
Phew, so what am I reviewing exactly? Today I thought I'd start with the quad - Midnight Hour (amazing name!).
I'm gonna start with the packaging first. Its beautiful, I mean its more than beautiful. I'm so happy that Sephora and Disney were able to create something that was pretty and grown up yet still incorporates elements of Cinderella in subtle ways. Its not childish in the slightest and looks beautiful sitting on a dressing table.
The box is embossed with gold leaf and floral detailing. Very Cinderella even down to the font!
Even the barcode has glass slipper detailing!
Everything from the box to the barcode have subtle hints of Cinderella magic. The box itself has lovely silver patterning with the quote "Its the exit he'll remember" written on the opening. Even the barcode on the back shows the design of Cinderella and a glass slipper. You can tell a lot of detailing has gone into this palette and I love that. It feels like a lot of work has gone into the collection.
Front of the palette
Back of the palette
The image on the front of the quad depicts the moment where the clock strikes 12 and Cinderella hurriedly runs away from Prince Charming before she turns back into her rags. Everything from the clock striking 12 in the corner, Prince Charming standing at the top of the stairs, the castle in the background, the slipper on the stair and the carriage at the bottom , tells a story in the palm of your hand! The palette feels sturdy in my hand but the actual artwork feels like with a bit of work, it could chip off. I did try with my nail just to see how good it is and couldn't get anything off, but it is worth noting. I myself won't be putting this in my handbag without the box as I want to keep it looking as nice as possible.
So its fair to say I'm pretty in love with the way the palette LOOKS, but how does it perform? Its all well and good looking pretty, but the make up has gotta be good too right?
I feel like the quad itself has 4 staple colours which make a nice simple smokey eye all in one place. There are two lighter lid colours and two darker smokier greys. Looking at them, I feel like they are very Cinderella, something I could imagine her wearing to the ball!
I found they perfomed nicely. Without primer I was a little disappointed I must admit as they were very sheer. But on top of my Lime Crime Candy Eyeshadow Helper primer, they were highly pigmented and stunning. All 4 colours were shimmery but I didn't get any fall out from particles of glitter or anything like that so that is a bonus! One thing that did disappoint me is none had individual names, so I have to refer to them as their colours. I always like it when eyeshadows have names!

Even though you can't really see it, the mirror has the quote "its the exit he'll remember". I love this!
The shimmery white is nice, very pigmented over a primer and can be sheered out for a brow bone highlight if desired.
The second shade is a pretty everyday champagne colour. Perfect for work and lovers of neutrals. I can see myself getting a lot of use out of this one and it looks just lovely on the lid.
The third shade is a gunmetal grey. Very pigmented and smokey.
The last shade is a shimmery dark blue although it does come across more black on the lid. It has a really pretty grey shimmer in it which surprisingly doesn't fall out.
Overall I really liked the formula of the eyeshadows. They are pigmented over a primer and stay well on the lid. I found they lasted without any fading over a primer and didn't fall out. They do kick up a bit of powder in the pans but I find that can be minimalised by just being careful. The eyeshadows themselves aren't particularly unique but the beauty of a palette like this is having a simple smokey eye in one place. The way the palette looks is definitely what attracts me most though, I love it and think the way Sephora designed this is perfect.
It is truly worth looking on ebay if you are a UK girly who is after this, I am seeing them for about £35 which is around the same price as MAC quads. Alternatively US beauties can still get this from Sephora for $30.00. If you UK girlies have any friends over there who might be willing to ship this to you, its also worth looking into :)
What do you think of the Cinderella/Sephora collaboration? Should I review the rest of the collection?

Their disney princess collections are gorgeous. I'm really annoyed that Sephora France don't stock it as it means I don't get access to the new Jasmine collection. The colors in this palette are super pretty :)
ReplyDeleteYou can always buy from Ebay :)
DeleteThis was a great review. I saw this was still available on sephora and was going to get it for you!
ReplyDeleteAw thanks Mel <3 I have pretty much all of the Cinderella stuff I think (except I think the perfume/rollerball?) but the Jasmine stuff.. :(
DeleteThe packaging is beautiful! I like they way the shadows look once swatched rather than in the pan. Absolutely beautiful colours :)
